The Director of Development (DOD) works with the Chief Executive Officer, Senior Staff, and Board of Directors in overseeing strategic direction for all development efforts. The DOD leads NCJW’s development department and serves as a key member of the Senior Management team. The DOD is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing a comprehensive development strategy for increasing the organizations philanthropic and grants revenue building capacity in an efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective manner. The DOD will be hired in NY and can work out of either our NY or Washington, DC office. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).Strong commitment to and passion for the mission of NCJW and the ability to articulate the importance of the organization’s work to prospective and current fundersMinimum of 8 years of increasingly responsible development experience in a nonprofit environmentSuperior written and verbal communication skillsStrong management skills with a record of nurturing and managing a talented and diverse staffSignificant experience in securing funding from individuals, corporations, and/or foundationsSuccessful track record in soliciting major gifts from existing and new prospectsAbility to work successfully with individuals at all levels within the organization, Board members, donors, and volunteersExcellent presentation skillsDemonstrated ability to develop, foster, and sustain one-to-one donor relationshipsExperience with donor databases, particularly Raiser’s EdgeKnowledge of and experience in the organized Jewish community and/or with women’s organizationsBA or Master’s Degree in relevant field preferredSalary and Benefits:Competitive salary commensurate with experience, comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance and generous vacation and holiday schedule. Please note: This position will be based in Washington DC beginning in the fall of 2018 but can be in NYC or DC upon hire until that time. Regular travel to NYC required.
